It’s not anime!

GundamInfo is a great YouTube channel for fans of the Gundam franchise. Lately, it’s been uploading full seasons of shows, such as Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096, as well as online exclusives, such as Twilight Axis. Recently however, the channel has finished uploading the entirety of the classic Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. It’s now moved onto the follow up series, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ.

Oh boy, what a show they chose to upload.

Gundam ZZ is quite different from its predecessor. Following a mostly brand new cast of characters, it takes place shortly after the finale of Zeta Gundam. What sets it apart from its predecessor however, is the overall tone of the show, which is much lighter and goofier than what one would expect. In addition, it is notorious for its first opening song, “Anime Ja Nai”, which when translated is, and I kid you not, “It’s Not Anime”. Even if you don’t want to watch the show for any reason, watch the opening as it is something magical.

Overall, the show is a decently fun time. It didn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor for me, but I enjoyed it for what it was. Although I’d put it in the lower rankings out of the Gundam shows I’ve seen so far. That being said, if you can’t handle the earlier episodes, then bang out, because it won’t change in tone until roughly the halfway mark. Gundaminfo appears to be only uploading them at 480p as well, meaning if you absolutely need it in HD you’ll have to fork out for the home release from Right Stuf.

The mobile suits from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, as well as characters from the show, will appear in the upcoming Gundam Versus, which releases internationally September 29
