Coming either late 2016 or early 2017
To the Moon was a really pretty game that would happily destroy you emotionally. Telling the tale of a pair of scientists who travel through the memories of a dying man, it’s a lovely little game, and I totally recommend you play it if you get the chance.
There was later a mostly unconnected prequel to To the Moon called A Bird Story. While I haven’t played it myself yet, I’ve heard from multiple people that it generally isn’t as good as To the Moon, but still worth playing.
Freebird Games has announced that a sequel to both games is in the works called Finding Paradise. The game won’t rely on you having played the two previous games. However, there is an overarching narrative between all three that you might miss out on if you don’t.
Finding Paradise sort of narratively connects To the Moon and A Bird Story, by featuring the scientists’ travel into the memories of a grown-up version of the protagonist from A Bird’s Story. You can see the first trailer for the game up top.
Freebird is currently aiming to have Finding Paradise launch by the end of 2016, but it drifting into early 2017 is apparently likely. Platforms haven’t been announced yet, but it’s probably just going to be Windows, Mac, and Linux like the previous two games.
Still, if it can pull off the emotional gut punches that To the Moon is known for, I’m pretty interested.
