Virtua Fighter 5 lead designer Tohru Murayama isn’t sure whether or not they’ll be releasing the 360 version of the game in Japan. Hold on just a minute — the Xbox 360 was released in the Japan?

Speaking to Eurogamer at the Leipzig Games Convention, Murayama agrees that the Xbox 360 popularity in Japan is nonexistent (less than 400,000 units sold to date). Because of this, he says they haven’t decided yet whether or not the game will be released in that territory.

“But if we [can only release the game] for the US or EU markets,” he says, “we just hope Virtua Fighter 5 will be a key title which encourages people to buy Xbox 360s.”

That’s likely, too —  the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5 looks hot, and contains a number of features not included in the previously released PlayStation 3 version of the title. Xbox Live support anyone?

Virtua Fighter 5 for the Xbox 360 ships to store shelves on October 30.
