Now that we know that Xbox 360s are shipping with HDMI ports, gamers were wondering how we could be sure that the system inside the box would actually have the ports on it. The answer is simple: read the box.
Joystiq hits us with a “why didn’t I think of that?” post, showing us that “HDMI port” is actually listed in the “Contents” list on newer Xbox 360 boxes. Captain Obvious will wait for you to slap your own forehead before flying off into the sunset. There, so now you know. Mystery solved.
Now that the Captain is gone, we can tell you that Joystiq also reports on a less obvious way to determine if the system has the new 65nm chipset. A label on the Xbox 360 box actually lists the word “Zephyr”, which they say is the codename for the Xbox 360 Elite mainboard (see picture). Those looking to buy a system with the new chipset should be on the lookout for codename “Falcon” in the same place on the label.
