I had reported in an earlier post that Rockstar was going to appeal the BBFC’s decision to ban its PS2/PSP/Wii title Manhunt 2 in the United Kingdom. However, as one might imagine, this is not going to be an easy task. Next-Gen today reports that the fight to get the ban lifted may take months of expensive work and even then, the battle may be for a neutered version of the original.
If Rockstar ever succeeds, it could be for nothing but pride now, and the small chance to rub it in the BBFC’s face. To sink money into a campaign to release a heavily edited game months after the initial shock value has worn off can be nothing but an act of defiance and little else. Even I have my doubts about this appeal now. It just seems like so much work … and a fight against outright censorship in the free world should never, ever be so much work. This makes me sad.
