No ‘master’ ranking
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is going to include a whole lot of multiplayer action. That’s what happens when you cram four separate games into one bundle — all of them renowned for their competitive play. As such, 343 Industries faces the challenge of how to score players’ efforts across all the titles.
343 told IGN that each of the multiplayer playlists in Master Chief Collection will use a skill-based leveling system identical to Trueskill, which was first used in the original Halo 2. That is, you gain XP when you win, you lose XP when lose, and total XP determines overall rank.
However, the ranks are kept isolated at all times. “We ultimately decided not to have a ‘master’ ranking across all four games combined, given that player skill and approach varies radically between game chapters,” 343 said. With no unified ranking to boast of, players will just have to put in the work on individual playlists to flex their Halo muscle.
