I don’t think I could choose, personally

When Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata informed us that we’ll be seeing what Retro Studios was working on at E3, we all assumed the best possible outcome: Metroid. But what we actually got was an announcement for a follow-up to Donkey Kong Country Returns, titled Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Fans remain divisive on whether or not following up a game that had a Wii and a 3DS version was a good move, but according to Retro, the decision wasn’t taken lightly. At the end of the day though, Retro’s President and CEO actually felt like they ultimately had “unfinished business” with Donkey Kong — my guess is ideas that were on the cutting room floor after Donkey Kong Country Returns that they wanted to flesh out.

Honestly, I am ok with this. There probably aren’t enough Metroid games in existence, and as a massive fan, I would love to see more. But if Retro can keep delivering good games just like Returns, I am more than willing to play them. I just hope they’re happy and passionate about whatever project they’re on — and today, it sounds like they are.
