For those about to rock, grab your stylus. This June, Ubisoft will release the North American version of Japanese cult hit Hiite Utaeru DS Guitar M-06, which has thankfully been renamed Jam Session for us gaijin.
Unlike Guitar Hero, which simply plays a song and tells you which buttons to push and when, Jam Session essentially turns your DS into a virtual guitar. Using the D-pad, a shoulder button and the stylus, (or a real guitar pick if you wanna be a true nerd about it,) you’re given nothing more than the notes and lyrics to follow and have the freedom to play the song any way you like, whether it be as a gentle ballad or a bone-splintering metalfest.
In addition to the above described Performance Mode, you can also choose from either Free play, which lets you rip it up to your heart’s content, or Tutorial Mode, where you can *gasp* actually learn to play guitar. You can also adjust sound settings to suit your musical tastes, unlock new skins and even record and save your own unique tunes, a feature that wasn’t available in the Japanese version. Stay tuned to Destructoid for track lists and more info as it becomes available.
