Day one of GDC was like a long warm up: lots of walking the floor, checking out the setup and meeting old and new friends. In the posh Game Lobby amongst huge flat screens and laptop toting attendees, I caught this small preview for the showing of the 2007 I am 8-Bit art show. It launches April 17th in lovely Los Angeles at the 1988 Gallery, much to the pleasure of geeks everywhere. If you like game art as much as I do, this event is not to be missed.
There will be a full showing here on Friday, so I’ll be back later in the week with more quirky goodness for you to goggle over. In the meantime, check out some of the showings from the previous events. Game art is not everybody’s bag, but I think it’s awesome to see people pouring their passion for games into a creative medium. Not all of us are equipped to actually make games, but we can always pay homage to them. I won’t be personally satisfied until I’ve gotten to paint the Zelda overworld map on a naked 19 year old, but hey, each to their own, right?
