The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can add yet another accomplishment to its growing list, becoming the United Kingdom’s number one charted game for Christmas. This is the first time that the prestigious slot has gone to a game not published by EA or Activision since 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

In recent years, Call of Duty has dominated the holiday charts, but Skyrim managed to supplant Modern Warfare 3‘s position after a few weeks, something that hasn’t been done in a very long time.

Although the gamer community seems to be increasingly turning against Skyrim (as is the fate of all popular games), I’m sure the ever-bristling COD haters will appreciate seeing another title in the spotlight. I still stand by Skyrim being my personal game of the year, so I don’t think the slot could have gone to a more deserving title. Bugs or not, it’s a beautiful experience.

But maybe as a Christmas treat, we can dispense with the “arrow to the knee” references, yeah?
