…I’ll be happy to separate my red clothing from my whites. Until then, f*ck it. I feel like in this world of pocket-sized computers and electric cars we could have something that wouldn’t stain our underwear pink by now. But no.

Kingston University design student Lee Wei Chen is on the case, working to make laundry time fun. He has gamified laundry duty with this machine, which is half washing machine and half puzzle game. The wash cycle is linked with the game, meaning the worse you play, the more coins it will require to your wash.

“I realised that the skills I had developed in the virtual world were useless in the real world. I wanted to make them useful,” says Chen.

I’d like to see how he tackles unloading the dishwasher.

Design Week says that this amusement washing machine was on display at the London Design Festival at Tent this last week.
