Rebuilds are always a fun activity, and in NBA 2K25, there are some fantastic options to consider.
Of course, you can begin a MyGM save with the likes of the Boston Celtics, who have an absolutely stacked roster. However, a rebuild project offers a challenge of its own, and you can approach it differently. This article contains ten such teams which have some problems of their own. While one might not have a good squad, the other is having to deal with expiring contracts. Let’s take a look at ten fun challenges you can try in the MyGM mode.
Top 10 NBA 2K25 MyGM rebuild projects
One thing unifies every team that requires a rebuild – they can’t win with the squad they have. So, these criteria automatically remove some of the obvious candidates from the selection. Thankfully, there are plenty of NBA sides in 2024 who definitely need a strong guiding hand in real life (and inside the game as well).
Team | OVR | OFF | DEF | Reason |
---|---|---|---|---|
Chicago Bulls | 91 | 94 | 88 | Zach Lavine is an exciting talent, but they have lost Derozan. Bulls have also been one of the most underperforming and mismanaged sides in recent years. |
Memphis Grizzlies | 97 | 99 | 94 | If a team screamed the term “average”, it’s the Nets. Cap space is limited until you get rid of Ben Simmons. |
Atlanta Hawks | 90 | 96 | 84 | In need of some defensive reinforcements, you’ll also need to manage the rapidly expiring contract of star guard Trae Young. |
Charlotte Hornets | 90 | 93 | 86 | Lamelo Ball might be a top talent, but he is surrounded by some very average talent and bad contracts. |
Utah Jazz | 87 | 93 | 82 | You’ll have to build around Lauri Markkanen, or you can trade him for draft picks and begin from complete scratch. |
Orlando Magic | 93 | 96 | 89 | The Magic squad has some exciting young talents, and managing the franchise could be fun if you can properly develop the duo of Wagner and Banchero. |
Brooklyn Nets | 85 | 85 | 86 | The Nets have a really mediocre squad, and rebuilding it will be a grueling test. Getting Simmons’ wages off the book should be a priority. |
Detroit Pistons | 90 | 92 | 87 | After winning 14 games last season, anything you do with the Pistons will be considered a gain. You can build around Cunningham and Duren. |
San Antonio Spurs | 94 | 94 | 94 | Two words – Victor Wembanyama. There’s no talent like him in the NBA, so why not bring back the glory years of Spurs with him in charge? |
Washington Wizards | 87 | 90 | 84 | The Wizards can really challenge for the lowest spot on the table in real-life NBA. In the game, you can try to improve them, but it will be a hard job. |
I have deliberately left out underperformers from last season, such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns. These teams do have a squad that can win a ring quite easily in MyGM, unlike in real life. Out of the ten names mentioned here, I plan on picking the Detroit Pistons since they offer everything – a few talented players, an average squad, a terrible previous season record, and a rich legacy from older eras.
