When did Warframe come out? All Warframe releases, explained

From closed beta to now, what were all the key dates for releases?

Warframe wasn’t always the game we’re putting hundreds upon hundreds of hours into today. At one point, it wasn’t even on home consoles and was just a PC exclusive. So, with that said, when did Warframe come out on each platform?

When did Warframe come out?

The original Warframe came out officially on March 25, 2013, only on PC at the time. Before that, there were open and closed betas that took place prior to its global release. If we’re getting technical, the game was originally released back on October 25, 2012, in a Closed Beta state. Players who opted into the Beta were able to carry that progress over into the full release of the game.

As the game started to receive more traction, Warframe eventually came out on the PlayStation 4 on November 15, 2013, in North America. Two weeks later, on the 29th, the game came out to PAL regions.

A year later, Warframe came out on Xbox One consoles on September 2, 2014. Unfortunately at that time, crossplay was not a thing, so people were only limited to playing with whoever was on the same platform at the time. There were platform migration events at the time so people from PC could switch to Xbox.

Four years later, Warframe came to the Nintendo Switch platform on November 20, 2018. With the help of Panic Button, the game was able to run quite smoothly. However, there were and still are restrictions to the game like the long loading times and having to always be online despite the portability aspect of the console.

When the current generation of PlayStation and Xbox consoles hit the market, they would get upgrades to utilize more stable framerates, better graphics, and faster loading times.

We would then see the PlayStation 5 version of Warframe come out on November 26, 2020. Months later, Xbox Series X and S consoles would get the current-generation version of the game on April 14, 2021.

It wasn’t until December of 2022 that Warframe finally received crossplay so that all players of the aforementioned platforms could play together.

And now, as current as we are, Warframe is also on iOS as of February 20, 2024. The Android port is still in the works at this time, but it will come out. It’ll also support crossplay just like it does on Apple devices.
