Today I visited my pals over at Rockstar to get a first-hand look of The Warriors for the PSP. I spent about an hour total with the game, playing through the beginning and other various modes and later missions. What did I come away with?

For $20, this thing ain't half bad. Though it is more or less a straight port from the console version (no new missions or levels), the game is actually very well-suited for the handheld -- you see, there are no guns in Warriors, so it's basically a brawler which makes the PSP experience much more enjoyable.

Visually, the game looks just as good as its PlayStation 2 counterpart. The grit and grime that painted the landscape of the original is right there again for the PSP. Staying true to the movie, The Warriors on the PSP is still the same quality experience.

So you might ask: But Robert, I already played the PS2 or Xbox version and I beat it, now what? Well, now you may want something to take on the go. Or, you just may want something to play with a friend.

See, thanks to the PSP's handy-dandy Wi-Fi capabilities, you and a buddy (or stranger) can take part in the story's co-op or any one of the number of two-player "extra" modes in the game -- like "King of the Hill."

One feature that will be different from the console version is that the side-scrolling "Armies of the Night" mode will be fully unlocked and playable (co-op too) from the beginning.

Did I have fun playing this? Yes. Should you get it when it comes out next month? Yes. It's $20 and you sure as fuck can't beat that with a quality PSP title.

Sorry, man, but I'm going to disagree with you yet again. A port of a 15-month old game isn't a good reason for the PSP. In fact, it would be the opposite. It's one of those big reasons why the PSP is flopping - the whole "NO ORIGINAL GAMES DAMMIT WHY DID I SPEND ALL THAT MONEY IN MARCH 2005 GOD WHY OH WHY?!?!?!" thing tends to wear on you a bit after a while. Still, it's a dust-attracting homebrew miracle for me, so I'm somewhat happyish.

Hawt. I loved the console version of this game. Co-op might actually be better on the PSP, the strange diagonal split-screen was kinda disorienting.

No, Cruds, it's essentially the exact same game. This one's just more portable.

Mxyzptlk makes a good point. I hate split screen in all its various forms and functions. Wi-fi is where it's at.

Anyone ever noticed that Ross from friends is in that movie?

Well its a nice game I give you that and the co-op might actually even make it better but I don't see myself buying a PSP for it. $20 is a great price if your never played it tho.

I can't even begin to imagine how yet another port of a PS2 game is justification for owning a PSP. It's the sort of thing that's been kicking the PSP in the balls since it's inception, no? I mean, when people bitch about the thing, the ports are usually right on the list of things that suck about owning one, so this game, while maybe sound, isn't going to suddenly bring all the port haters 'round.

Then again, I don't write for a gaming blog, so what the shit do I know?

I'm merely saying that if you already own a PSP, for $20, this game is a good deal. I'm not saying it warrants spending the money on a PSP alone.

The PS2 version was a sort of letdown but it should be perfect for the PSP.

Summa, that was understood. At least on my part. Like I said, a port of a PS2 game, no matter how solid it ends up being, is still just a port of a PS2 game. It doesn't justify the $250 I spent on the PSP. Sadly, depending on your perspective, it's the homebrew stuff that does.

And I assume you were addressing me because not only does the world revolve around me, but your post was directly underneath mine. Really, I'm too humble.

Yes I was, last time we watched that movie we where all convinced must have been the alcohol or something. I just checked again and it's not the same guy. Maybe it's his creepy brother.
