Helldivers 2 players aren’t sure if they just succeeded or failed a Major Order

Major Order inconclusive.

The most recent Major Order in Helldivers 2 tasked players with liberating two entire sectors in the name of democracy. To do this, players were given three days, and while we believe we failed, the game doesn’t seem so sure.

Earlier this week, after a weekend of trying to liberate any planet that took their fancy, Helldivers 2 players were finally given a new Major Order. This tasked them with clearing out the Draco and Mirin sectors in just three days. As that timer ended last night, players mourned the loss. At the time of writing, though, the game is showing conflicting messages.

We can’t tell if we won or lost the last Major Order in Helldivers 2, and more orders keep coming

When I logged into the game today, I saw, and can still see at the time of writing, a dispatch telling me that the last Major Order was successful. After checking in on the game’s Subreddit, I also found players reporting a dispatch with a failure message, and it’s unclear exactly which one is right.

Regardless of what the player sees, everyone today has a new Major Order to liberate Fori Prime, Crimsica, Hellmire, and Estanu so Terminid biomass can be collected. When I was capturing the dispatch messages for this article, Estanu came under attack, leaving us 24 hours to defend it while also tackling this new Major Order.

Some players reckon that Helldivers 2 is somehow bugged and that we were expected to easily complete the Major Order, which is why the success message is being displayed. Everyone I’ve seen discussing the Major Order believes the same as me. We didn’t even unlock Zagon Prime, so there’s no way we could have won this. But I also think this may not just be a bug.

As far as I can tell, there are two possibilities here. First, Arrowhead Games Studio’s Game Master Joel realized he’d handed us a Major Order we’d never complete, so let it end quietly and gave us a more reasonable one with a longer time limit. The second possibility is that this is all part of the greater story arc.

Confusion among Helldivers would serve an enemy faction that uses advanced technology and has been hitting players with blue lasers when they least suspect it in missions for a while. The confused dispatches from Super Earth could be a sign that this enemy faction is interfering. After all, we’ve already seen the evolution of the Terminids, and it would be advantageous for a new enemy to hit us while we’re not only confused but on the back foot while defending a planet we just liberated.
