Naturally, having a smooth internet connection will prevent lags and ensure a better experience. Lags can cause your players to react slowly, which could often result in conceding goals and, eventually, losses. This makes it important to ensure that your online matches are as lag-free as possible.

Best EA FC 24 tips and tricks to reduce lag in online matches

It’s important to remember that online matches can lag due to multiple reasons. In fact, the servers and your opponent’s connections might also be problematic, but here are certain practices that can improve your online connectivity during matches.

  • Used wired connections: This might not be possible for all, but it’s preferable to use a wired connection over a Wi-Fi network. A wired connection results in a smoother connection on both PC and consoles and prevents sudden packet losses during matches.
  • Disable crossplay: While I choose to keep crossplay on for matchmaking, disabling it slightly improves connectivity during matches. Do note that turning off crossplay will increase the time it takes to find a match. You can turn crossplay off from matchmaking settings.
  • Reduce network load: While playing the matches, try to ensure that the load on your network is minimal. Ensure that there are no background activities that consume bandwidth. It would help if you also closed all heavy background processes, which also reduces the load on RAM. This requirement is applicable only to PC players.
  • NAT type: ‘Closed’ NAT connections have restricted matchmaking by default; they can also cause packet losses. You can change it to an ‘Open’ type to aid matchmaking (Do note that this process is complex, and take extra care changing your settings).
