cut scenes vs in-game storytelling

Lately it seems like everyone is saying throwing away cut-scenes. Everything should be in game. I think there is plenty of room for both types of storytelling. It's great when a games story can all be told during game play. However, I think it would be almost impossible to tell a story like MGS4 without cut scenes. Some say cut scenes remove you from the game or interrupt the your game play experience. I think if they are done correctly they can only help game play. Would MGS4 be nearly as fun if you knew nothing about Solid Snake. Most of the fun in any MGS game is that your controlling such a cool character and playing along with the crazy story. I don't think there is any problem with mixing game play and cinema. What does everyone else think?
