Iron Man Xbox Live Demo Review

Well I would like to begin by declaring my immediate bias. I love Marvel Comics. Every single damn comic book character published by those wonderful creative masterminds gets me harder than a sexually aroused Ben Grimm. I'm also obsessed with open ended super hero games where you can fly, jump really high, web-sling, etc.
That being said, this demo was pretty good. The setting is the middle of the desert, some top secret military base. Reminded me of The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (Pretty fun sandbox marvel hero game where every other level is some top secret military base in the middle of the goddamn Mojave). The flight system is pretty fun, albeit loose considering the default camera sensitivity is so high you feel like a 10 year old off his ritalin wearing a jetpack. You get used to the controls eventually and let me tell you- dodging missiles in mid-air is pretty dang enjoyable.
The graphics are beautiful with a definite attention to detail. Being a demo, there were a few buggy areas graphically where it seemed unfinished but I'm hoping those will be polished out in the final game. There is an upgrade system with your armor, giving it just that HINT of RPG. The weapons are fun to use; you dont really feel like Iron Man until you've shot a volley of rockets at a helicopter while speeding through the sky. The melee punching gives you a sense of power as well, and you can actually rip the tops off of tanks by rapidly tapping B (melee button). The targeting system is neat because it is useful but at the same time it doesn't "baby-up" the difficulty of the game.
All in all, the demo showed definite potential. Wasn't "rock your balls off" exciting but I certainly enjoyed it. Sometimes licensed super-hero games have been known to show promise but FAIL HARD in the final production (COUGH SUPERMAN RETURNS COUGH) but then again don't all licensed games? (with the exception of such gems as King Kong and IMHO Spiderman 2) The gameplay is solid and playing as Iron Man is badass enough, so really I see the game only being able to go up from here.

Whatever happened to Wild 9? It was truly a revolutionary cult classic with bold steps towards innovation. It broke the boundaries of creative violence in its time. It will always be one of the most entertaining games in my library.
When I was little, I was exploring the glass casing of a game store in some swap meet when i spied the box cover for this rare gem. The game was about shooting a lightning bolt from your arm to pick people up, and slamming them into the ground. Extra points if you can jam them into a meat grinder. As you can probably imagine, I flipped. I begged my grandmother to get it for me, never telling my parents or anyone just how violent it was. I have played through that game countless times since then. Such innovative gameplay can not be shoved aside to the average pile in the bargain bin, as mainstream reviews have so despicably done. The developers of Earthworm Jim had created a monster for young boys to play with daily after school that was more immersive than chronic masturbation. The bosses were revolutionary and unique. The space-bike levels were fast-paced, intense, and heart pounding. I would describe the freefall levels to my friends with much enthusiasm, I remember. "Dude, your'e like, falling down this tube, right? IN SPACE, RIGHT? and as you are plummeting, you grab enemies and chuck them into the walls of the tube! YOU WRESTLE WHILE FALLING!" With hilarious humor that ACTUALLY DOES APPEAL TO ITS TARGET AUDIENCE, Wild 9's dialogue was witty and made the characters memorable.

Even though I'm a fan of the Jak series, you have to admit that they kind of ripped off Wex and (B)Angus.

So please Shiny, or whoever else would want to recreate this game, please remake it for a current gen or perhaps attempt to spawn a worthy sequel. If not, try to port it to PSP with some cool extras. So many gamers would thank you, while even more would become aware of this fantastic game. Please for the sake of us all, make this into a franchise.

I still can't get on a bicycle without imagining zooming through those space-cactus fields at breakneck speeds...
