Heads up for those bargain hunters (who seem to be growing by the day in this economy). Walmart.com has the 13 month XBL Gold card for $29.99 w/ free ship to store, or a $1 ship to you.
So Rock* using SecuROM was expected as it was reported on prior to release. But now that the game's out the extent of the DRM headache is beginning to come into focus.
*Must install Rockstar Social Club program & keep it running.
*Must create MS LIVE account
*Must use Games for Windows Live (which wont run on 64-bit OSes)
*Must validate over email more than once.
*Must assign 360 LIVE, PSN or PC LIVE account to Rockstar Social Club.
*Must download (abysmally slow) news updates every time the game is played (before it will launch)
*Must have DVD in the drive at all times game is being played.
and this is all just to play singleplayer.
So you've done all that, and you're ready to play the game now.
*Game doesn't support SLi (at least for 8800 GTX)
*Game doesn't run under newest GeForce drivers
*Game wont let you modify graphics settings even if your system is more than powerful enough to run high graphics.
*Game freezes, has graphical glitches and..
*Game crashes to desktop.
The predictable Amazon backlash has already begun one day after release.
UK tech site reghardware.co.uk is reporting SEGA is working on a new handheld to rival the PSP.
Named the "SEGA Vision"; it's being labeled as a media device, capable of:
* Live TV (built in TV tuner)
* Video playback device (MP4; probably xvid, WMV, divx also; maybe AVC, VC-1, x264)
* Music player (MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE)
* 2GB memory built in - 6GB w/ SD card (has SD card slot)
* Digital Camera (still & video)
* Voice Recorder
* E-Book reader (supports E-Books & txt files)
* Games (plays java based games)
* Pocket Sized (probably somewhere between a DS & PSP in size)
Apparently there are prototypes of it available in a crane-prize machine in the London arcade's grabber machine right next to an iPod nano machine. (any1 in London who makes arcade trips care to take some pics & post them up?)
SEGA has told The Register it plans to launch the Vision next year, but pricing hasn't been set.
So on the front page of bungie.net is a countdown in the lower right corner, under the letters ERR. It's currently (at the time of this posting) at 11 hours 30 odd minutes and counting down.
The center of the screen has a collection of warning messages which keep rotating.
