War is approaching. War has been on the horizon ever since Guitar Hero became the goliath it is now. There are two sets of fanboys that will soon be going toe to toe in forums and blogs everywhere. What's even worse is that one of sets has now become divided into two smaller sets. The first set is the Konami Bemani fanboys. The DDR, BeatMania, Guitar Freaks and DrumMania players who will stay loyal to their originals from Japan. The divided group began as Guitar Hero fans, but will soon become divided into Guitar Hero fanboys, following the name of the game they've grown to love these past two years, and Rock Band fanboys, who have been loyal harmonix fans since Frequency and Amplitude.

These three fanboy armies will destory each other in a battle that can only be described as an eight minute rocking remix of Xepher with amazing guitar, bass, and drum solos. The Konami fanboys will claim that "the original is the best" while the Guitar Hero fanboys will claim that "Guitar Hero improved on the entire music game genre" to which, the Harmonix fanboys will add "only because of the visionaries over at Harmonix". At this point, they will all just flame each other worse than any other flamewar before it.

This is a shame considering how far the genre has come because of these three powerhouses. Since the late 90's, Konami has been the leader in music games. They have created more original music games than any other company, and have continued most of these series since (DDR, BeatMania, Pop'n'music, even Guitar Freaks and DrumMania are now being released in American arcades soon). Harmonix has taken the genre and popularized it much more in the American market, mostly through Guitar Hero, which made music games fun for both newcomers and the music game elite.

Just a decade after the first music games were released, the genre has become as well known as the first-person shooter or the racing sim. And even still, as more comprehensive music games come out (Rock Band, Guitar Hero III, Guitar Freaks V4 and DrumMania V4), the only way the genre as a whole can go is up.

So I ask the fanboys: Please, do not fight each other. We are not each other's enemies. Instead, let us focus on taking down the other genres a notch. Let's make our music games equally respected in the world of video games. Alone, we shall fail, but together, we shall thrive!
