10 things you didn't know about me(or cared about)
Kyousuke Nanbu | 11:31 PM on 04.03.2012 23 comments

Let's just get right to it folks, no pictures here.

10. I am a chef.

I studied in a culinary institute and got my degrees for local and international cuisine as well as the bakery program they offered which covered everything related to that field, cakes, bread, pastries, etc. Alas the economy keeps screwing me out of jobs, you know what its like to wake up at 6am for an interview and you're number 217 to get there? For a job with 30 positions no less, total numbers where like 5,000 for those interviews.

9. I'm not really that abrasive.

I like to be honest, I do it in real life which hasn't endeared me to many people but I can't help myself, I won't go out of my way to hurt someone but if they're doing something I call them out on it, many teachers hated me because of this but meh, I have no fucks to give, I'm actually a fairly nice guy if you get to know :P

8. I love cats

I have 6 cats I claim ownership off, 3 indoors, 3 outdoors, love these furry little bastards, they've brought me joy and sadness.

7. I have a wrong a community member.

I wish I could remember his d-toid name, I have him on my AIM list as Nintendo Barf Bag, he's the guy that does huge posts and gets some awesome games in.

Anyway, we did a trade once, it went smoothly, we planned another and finances got in the way, I was planning to send him a boatload of guides but I could never afford, its been 2 years, something always comes up, I feel terrible about this and still want to do things right by him, I truly hope I can rectify this someday.

6. I am from Puerto Rico

Born and raised here for 28 years, largely why it troubles to send things as listed above, especially since he lives in Canada, but that's no excuse.

5. I am fluent in 2 languages

Entiendes? No? Then you don't speak spanish then :D

4. I play anything.

My tastes are all over the place, I really don't care about quality that much, as long as a game is serviceable I will play it, hell my favorite survivor horror game is Extermination, a launch title for the PS2 many moons ago, it did a lot of awesome stuff that hasn't been emulated since.

3. I'm competitive, though I claim I'm not.

I get sooooooooooo pissed when I die a lot in a multi game, I'm above average but some people are just way better, despite this I still get mad when I lose, been thinking of just sticking to co-op shit but Gears has to much allure, despite the gnasher fest it is, it boils down to skills really and I can get behind that.

2. I died once.

When I was 8 I drowned, I remember the place, the time, I remember the feeling, just fidgeting and swallowing water, the corner of the pool was literally inches from me, if I had reached out.

I think that now sure but at the time, just pure panic and fear, don't remember much after that, I came to in my cousin's arms in a car, 5 days in the hospital and I was ok, I was told that I was pullled from the pool and was lifeless, a woman broke through the crowd and gave me CPR, a shame I never got to know her, I would love to thank her, I owe her my life.

AND NOW THE BIG ONE NUMBER 1

1. I'm a girl.

Everyone's just assumed I'm a guy right? Well I'm not, never really felt the need to publish it of course, especially on a gaming site, don't wanna come off as attention whoring, I even send packages through my brother's company so my name doesn't pop up when I interact with fellow forums goers, shortened version of my real name is Mari, you can call me that if you want.

Well there you have it, 10 things you give no fucks about.
Also I lied, one picture.

http://i.imgur.com/3idws.jpg

Direct linking to it because its huge, one of my kitties, she's not pregnant, just really fucking fat.

Broken pieces of crap and you.
Kyousuke Nanbu | 2:44 PM on 03.29.2012 14 comments

I've been playing games since I was 4, I'm 28 right now, that's a long ass time to be enjoying games but something about the medium just grabbed me. But I'm not here to talk about that, I'm here to talk about buggy ass pieces of shit that get released and slapped 60 dollar price tag, buggy ass pieces of shit where the developer remains tight lipped and issues not statement regarding them, buggy ass pieces of shit that can get you banned because of one particular bug.

I'll start with my header picture, Operation Raccoon City, not a bad game, astoundingly mediocre I'd say, at least the co-op campaign, as soon as you step into the multi it becomes a river of shit, you aren't just in shit creek, you're in the shit ocean with no way to get out.

First off let's about the guns, as with any shooter there's always the de-facto best ones, the problem isn't with that, its the shotguns, shotguns are powerful but they have the added effect of knocking someone down with the force of the blast here, you can be set-up for any number of things if someone shotguns in this game, I honestly don't the understand of the knockdown effect, its just aggravating and in the modes where you have more health its just used to stunlock you for 10 seconds, fun for everyone except the guy getting shot.

Let's move on to skills, one character class has a move that makes him immune to ALL damage, think about that for a second, a skill you activate with a press of a button makes you superman, oh wait, it also makes you super accurate as well, there's no downside and relatively fast cooldown time, now you fellas tell me, is there something wrong there? A skill that makes you accurate and immune to everything? Was this shit even playtested?

Spawn camping is extremely simple, there's no system in place to spawn you elsewhere on some game modes, just near or at your face, there is no spawn protection so you spawn and get a face full of bullets to your face

But this is just weapon balance, let's move on to the technical side, these are all bugs I've experienced in my games.

My character model holding the backwards, shooting it would hurt me.
Shooting bullets out of my grenade launcher
Worst netcode in history, I have other multi games and this is the only one where I lag about 2 or 3 seconds in some matches
A command during an objective match, this is what is said "gvirus.pickup.action.disabled"
Yes we couldn't pick up our objective DURING THE OBJECTIVE MATCH.
Hardlocking my console, 3 times.
Unable to continue during the campaign due to a scene not triggering

And the bug that can get you banned, I was immune to all forms of damage for an entire match, I was accused of hacking by numerous people and someone said he got on a capture card, if I seriously get banned from XBL due to a bug I will be more than pissed. This kind of garbage in a game is inexcusable, there was no playtesting here, there was no quality control, just rush this barely working game out the door and hope the fans don't bitch, shit there's a bug thread on the Capcom forums that is enormous, so far all we know is that Slant Six can't do shit, its all in Capcom's hands so we might as well just write the game off now.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am sick and tired of this shit, I'm not paying 60 dollars to beta test something, I pay 60 dollars for a working fucking product, I can excuse map glitches and other minimal glitches, but not the sheer volume of crap this game has, this is shit that should pop up during playtesting.

And like I said already, Capcom is silent on the issues, I guarantee you we'll get DLC for this piece of crap before any fixes come down the pipeline.

Entitlement, or why nobody understand what that word actually means.
Kyousuke Nanbu | 6:51 PM on 03.14.2012 8 comments

This is about Mass Efffect 3, if you don't want it spoiled or don't wanna read then please go away.

The ones that have stayed, let me talk about what the word entitlement, its being tossed around so much, mainly aimed at people that wanted better from the ending of Mass Effect 3, apparently demanding better of things you pay for makes you a whiny self entitled bitch.

The original Mass Effect came out in November 20th 2007, the final entry came out in March 6th 2012, nearly 6 years between the original and now the supposed final installment, through the series you decisions where supposed to carry weight to them, whomever was dead in 1 was gonna be dead in 2, in a similar manner you didn't have to start fresh, the John or Jane Shepard you adventured with since the very beginning was the same character you where gonna be using in the 3rd game.

Gaming is like any other form of entertainment, be it a book, a band, a favorite tv series, a series of movies, people invested in all of this, they become fans, thanks to them these things mentioned are allowed to prosper, their universe to grow, had people ignored the original Mass Effect I would not be writing this blog, alas people enjoyed the game and it grew from there. They became invested in this universe, in its races, its colorful characters, finally after so long they played the inevitable conclusion to it.

And everything they did was rendered meaningless in one fell swoop, a deus ex machina out of nowhere and 3 choices, all of them bringing about the exact same conclusion, the explosion a different color being the only difference between them.

I cured the genophage, the war like Krogan are now free to breed as much as they want, this alters the galaxy significantly, I don't see what happens after the war is over.

I made peace between the geth and the quarians, 2 races that have been fighting each other for centuries, their skirmish is finally at an end, I never see how that plays out.

I assemble the largest fleet of human and alien or synthetic alike, all aimed for one purpose, taking back earth, I never see this happen, I am not allowed to believe in the power of what I built, I do not see krogans and salarian fighting side by side, I do not see geth coming to the aid or quarians in the great battle.

Hell, not even the people I take with me, whom I see die, actually die.

Mass Effect 3 is very unique, in one swoop it takes everything I have been doing over the course of 3 games and renders them irrelevant. You are rail-roaded into 3 choices, none of which are satisfactory.

If you where to combine the price tags of all 3 ME games, bought at at launch that's a 180 dollars, let's say you bought all the DLC, you could come to almost 300 dollars, 300 dollars between all the games, this medium of entertainment you have invested in, you have put time and money into this. You are not satisfied with its conclusion, you want something better, you tell the writers this, hell you say you will pay for it, but no, you are entitled, shut up, you are not qualified, you are not a writer.

Do I need to be a certified mechanic to know when he did a shitty repair job?
Do I have to be a teacher to know when I'm being taught by a really bad one?
Do I have to be a certified interpreter to translate from spanish to english?
Do I need to take typing classes to learn how to type fast?

Things change because people demand better, if we are complacent then nothing happens, the world remains as is regardless of how bad things might be, revolutions have happened because said no, I don't like how this is.

Granted this is on a much, much smaller scale, but I don't see why people are being jerks about this, I am a chef and a baker, I take pride in the product I make, I listen to my customers, I make sure their entire experience is something to remember so they will come back, its not to hard to weed out those who bitch for the sake of it, I listen, if 30 customers say a particular dish doesn't taste very good, I review it and see what can be changed.

Imagine the entire dining experience, imagine it starts out well, the appetizer is exquisite, the service is wonderful, then the main course arrives and its something out of a chef boyardee can.

The ending to the game is the main course, its what people have been waiting years for, all your choices coming to fruition in one giant swoop. You've enjoyed everything up to that point, then finale gives you the runs for 5 days.

People aren't entitled when they say something sucks and want better, they don't need to be award winning writers to know when something is written poorly, if the service being provided was free that would be one thing, but it isn't, you have to pay for this experience, the journey is just half the trip, the conclusion is what you really wanna see, especially when you've been invested for so long.

Proof that Kanji is the best damage dealer in Persona 4(shortblog)
Kyousuke Nanbu | 12:15 PM on 10.23.2009 34 comments

We already know Kanji's awesome, I'll detail why later but for now let's talk damage, the comparison has always been between Chie and Kanji, Chie gets power charge so that makes her better.

WRONG

Thanks to the power of MATH the truth shall now come out. Credit goes to a pal from another forum.

"Also, to finish out this 'sperging post, to the person who had concerns about defense mitigating more damage on multiple weak attacks, it doesn't work that way. Final damage numbers aren't a result from defense being subtracted from attack or anything like that, but is instead 5 times the square root of the result of your attack multiplied by your strength over the enemy's endurance. There are a few other small modifiers like your level difference and a random number, but let's assume all that stuff is 1 (they don't often stray far from it).

The square root part is important, because what this means is that two weak attacks in a row will actually do much more damage than a single attack with twice the base damage value. It is also important to note that damage increasing buffs are applied after the calculations, not during. The full formula can be found in this guide http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/945498/54981

The end result of this is that with Tarukaja, Kanji's two Primal Forces do a total of 657 damage, assuming his strength is equal to the enemy's endurance and all other modifiers are 1. Chie's single power charged God's Hand with Tarukaja does 580 damage, again assuming that her strenth is equal to the enemy's endurance and all other modifiers are 1. The end result is that Kanji definitely does more single target damage than Chie."

So there you have it, IRREFUTABLE PROOF ABOUT KANJI BEING AWESOME.

Don't get me wrong, Chie's my waifu but Kanji is just to awesome.

But why is he awesome? Here's a few reasons.

1. He knits shit, only the manliest of men knit.

2. His starting weapon is a steel chair.

3. He loves his mother.

4. He is a true bro to the protagonist.

5. He didn't kick the shit out of Yosuke even though he had it coming.

Yep Kanji is awesome, best character ever.

Let's finish this up with some images.

WHOA that's kinda gay, let's bring this back in awesome territory.

There we go, that's what I'M TALKING ABOUT YEA.

In closing here's a picture of Ike and Starmie, why? Cause Ike and Starmie 2 of the manliest motherfuckers on earth.

Why the Wii version of the Ghostbusters game will be the best.
Kyousuke Nanbu | 5:34 PM on 06.15.2009 27 comments

Ghostbusters the video game, didn't seem feasible so many years ago, I'm sure of you remember the tech demo Zootfly made about it, rumors swirled and everyone was psyched but then it was no more.

Shit happened and now its a reality, Ghostbusters The Video Game comes out tomorrow and I for one am pretty psyched. I also feel pretty damn old as I remembering seeing the sequel when it came out on VHS and going in the Universal studios in 1993...

But enough about that, I'm rambling, let's get the blog's subject matter which is why the Wii version will be the best.

First off we got the art style, rather than half-ass high def graphics they went with a unique style which is very reminiscent of the old the real Ghostbusters cartoon, every is stylized and cartoony and gives the Wii version a very unique look.

Now we move on to the controls, every report from people that have early copies of the game state how well the controls are integrated, you use the Wiimote to aim and the nunchuk to move around, whenever you weaken a ghost you have to slam them against stuff via shaking the Wiimote in the direction an arrow prompt appears, all in all, very simplistic and intuitive, there is also one very important thing that can only be done with the Wii version but that deserves its own section which I shall cover later.

Sorry about the IGN logo, I can't find a better image.

A LADY BUSTER, score one for gender equality as the Wii version is the ONLY version that lets you use either a male or a female, more importantly this image also conveys the story mode co-op which again is exclusive to the Wii and its splitscreen, we lack the robust multiplayer options of the PS3 and 360 versions but I can live with that in exchange for busting with my brother or friends.

You can throw the trap in the Wii version.

No more needs to be said on this.

So there you have it, inarguable. proof as to why the Wii version will be the best.

In conclusion I leave you with this.

Why Naoto is the worst character in Persona 4.
Kyousuke Nanbu | 7:07 PM on 03.08.2009 26 comments

Obviously this is my opinion as I know Naoto has a lot of fans.

This blog will have liberal spoilers I might add so if you have intentions of playing the game or haven't Naoto yet, STOP READING NOW.

THIS IS YOUR ONLY SPOILER WARNING.

1. Her skillset is no good, granted she's your only dark and light skill user but that's about it, she's useful in random fights and even then only good in the heaven dungeon, she's useless during bossfights as all she can do is mind charge and Megidolaon, she never learns spell master so you need to get her the chakra ring to halve her mp cost by half(a relic which you may or may not find in the heaven dungeon).

2. She's an exposition fairy, from the moment she joins you she regurgitates everything that's happened, she does in the december dungeon and the true ending dungeon as well, I for one hate exposition fairies, I am not an idiot, I don't need a character who's sole purpose is to tell me what's happened.

3. Everytime she shows up the game is constantly pushing her on you as all the girls in your party gush on how amazing Naoto is and how cool, same with all the random classmates NPC's, Naoto is great, yada, yada, she wasn't, she was boring.

4. Her reasoning for joining you where quite weak compared to everyone else, she wanted to solve the mystery, that's it, everyone else had some kind of deep reasoning for being there, not her.

Overall I think Persona 4 would have been just fine without her, in the end she provided nothing to the story, she added nothing, she wasn't a good fighter and she didn't even solve the mystery as it was the MC who came to the conclusion of who was the real killer. Hell the MC outclasses her in every way when it comes to fighting.

Even her S.link was weak, you don't learn that much about her and she still doesn't feel comfortable as a girl and once again, the MC is the one that solves the mystery through most of the S.link(depending on your choices though so this one could be up to debate) vs everyone else who make a drastic change.

Yosuke feels he's the MC's equal.
Chie doesn't feel insecure about herself or her friendship and realizes just how much she cares for Yukiko.
Yukiko realizes she wants to stay home and run the inn and becomes more outgoing.
Kanji embraces the things he grew up with and decides to be less insecure about them.
Teddie finds his reasons to stay in the real world and grows beyond what he truly is.

Even the NPC S.links where more interesting than Naoto's.

She was the only flaw in an otherwise fantastic RPG.
